Teaching Philosophy
It is of the utmost importance to me that my students feel that my classroom is a safe space for learning. Beyond course-specific content, I have two main goals for my students: that they gain experience forming independent opinions and making decisions, and that they improve their written and verbal communication skills.
- Practice forming opinions and making decisions: It is critical to me that my students learn to form independent opinions on course material that translate into actionable business decisions. I believe the ability to synthesize information into a coherent belief is a central skill across industries including academia and business. In service of this goal, I frequently bring relevant current events into the classroom, asking students to discuss in small groups before discussing as a whole. I additionally solicit student comments frequently, and encourage participation from the less vocal students in the class.
- Improved communication skills: It is extremely important to me that students leave my class as improved written and verbal communicators. I believe that if students can enter professional life as above average communicators, they will have a valuable leg up on their competition.
